From Survey to Plan

In October 2003 the Parish Council decided to apply for a grant from the Countryside Agency’s Vital Villages programme to fund the creation of  a Parish Plan.  The latter would update the Parish Appraisal carried out 10 years earlier and provide information for the Okehampton Area Market and Coastal Towns Initiative.  The grant was awarded and, following the formation of a steering group, a public consultation meeting was held in February 2004 at which issues were raised for inclusion in a postal questionnaire that would form the basis for a parish survey.

A 48.2% response to the questionnaire was achieved and the results were collated in the Survey Report which was presented at a second public meeting in October.  The steering group then discussed issues and actions, together with comments received from the questionnaire and both public meetings, leading to the production of this document and the full plan.

The Plan

The plan aims to identify the needs of the parish both now and for the future.  We hope it will assist statutory bodies, service providers and the voluntary sector to be aware of parish requirements for their budgetary purposes or as supporting data for grant funding.
