Saint Andrew's Church - 4
Roof Repairs : May 2005

The main repairs to the tower and South Aisle are now complete. Smaller works remain to be done on the porch and vestry, which are expected to be completed in June. In September a small amount of further repointing to the tower will be done by Western Steeplejacks using "bosun's chairs".

The main contract was for £110,000 (excluding VAT, which will be reclaimed) and any overrun to be approved on this is likely to be confined to £3,000 or so. The extra pointing on the tower will also cost about £3,000.

These photographs show the problems very clearly.

Water leaking through the roof of the south aisle.
There is a shortfall of some £5,000. If necessary this could be borrowed from Church funds in the short term while efforts are made to raise the necessary sum from institutional donors and from parish fund-raising events.
English Heritage offered £68,000 towards the project, of which we have now received 95%. All other expected funding has now been received, apart from the VAT reclaim.

Parish fund raising efforts have been very successful so far and the PCC is extremely grateful to everyone concerned. One final effort in the next few months would see us through without permanent damage to the Church's financial situation.

The local community will do all it can to ensure the necessary repairs take place but any money you can contribute will be most gratefully received. If you are able to help and you are a tax payer, please fill in the form on page 5 and enclose it with your donation. This will ensure that your taxes will provide additional money.
